The Best Things You Should Buy at Aldi
I absolutely hate spending more than I need to on groceries. Especially when my family of four eats like it’s a small Army that just returned from a 3-day battle.
I have been loyal to Walmart and Kroger for years and never considered taking the extra few minutes to drive across town to Aldi to save a few dollars. Until recently. Since then, we’ve tried many items and discovered which are the best bargain. It amazes me how far my $50.00 can stretch there versus what I can get at my local grocery store.
One of the biggest things we love about this store is the fact that it has banned pesticides from its produce. Here are a few items we always buy at Aldi:
- Pineapple
- Organic Bananas
- Avocados
- Baby Carrots
- Peppers
- Lemons & Limes
- Strawberries
- Kiwi
- Squash
- Mushrooms
We have found quite a few of our staple household pantry items to be the best bargain at Aldi. We generally stock up on these items when we make our trip, so we always have them on hand:
- Noodles
- Canned Vegetables
- Chicken Broth
- Bread
- Tortillas
- Ketchup
- Cereal
- REAL Vanilla Extract
- Breadcrumbs
- Natural Peanut Butter
- Misc. Baking Items: flour, sugar, brown sugar, baking soda, spices, chocolate chips, etc.
- Mustard
- Canned Fruit (in juice, not syrup)
Their refrigerated items are very good quality. Essentials for us include:
- Cheese (their assortment is AMAZING. Perfect for wine and cheese nights!)
- Butter
- Eggs
- Milk
- Almond Milk
- Salsa
- Greek Yogurt
- Pizzas (Fresh, not frozen)
Aldi’s frozen foods section has a few items we enjoy. It’s a good idea to read the labels before purchasing them:
- Ice Cream
- Waffles & Pancakes
- Potato Products (Fries, Tots, etc.)
- Popsicles
- Berries
- Frozen Pizzas
- Seafood (this varies depending on the season)
Our family isn’t too big into snacking, but when we have a party or a sweet tooth we can’t seem to kick we stick with these:
- Tortilla Chips
- Their Fit & Active Line (fruit snacks, chocolate cookies, S’mores mini crisps)
- Penguin Crackers
- Granola Bars
For meats, we usually stick to Zaycon Fresh and local grocery store deals, freezing them as we go, but we have found a few items at Aldi:
- Premium bacon (don’t go for the cheap stuff)
- Jumbo Hot Dogs
- Ground Turkey (varies, depending on if Zaycon Fresh is having a delivery soon)
- Frozen Chicken Nuggets
With a teenager, a toddler, and a husband, all of whom can’t ever seem to quench their thirst, we sometimes splurge on these beverages at Aldi:
- Organic Bottled Juice
- Sangria (depending on the season)
- Domestic & Imported Beers (My husband LOVES their selection)
- Bottled Water
A few household items we grab at Aldi when needed include:
- Paper Plates
- Napins
- Plastic Silverware
- Storage Bags
- Paper Towels
- Aluminum Foil
- Thick Toilet Paper (key word: THICK)
And there it is! Our quick list of what to purchase at Aldi! This store really allows us to stay at or under budget, depending on local sales.
