Spread the love

Engage in a hobby you used to love or try a new one.

Hobbies are more than just pastimes. They are an essential part of our well-being. Engaging in a hobby allows us to step away from the stressors of daily life and immerse ourselves in something that brings us happiness. It’s a way to express creativity, learn new skills, and even meet like-minded people.

Think back to a time when you were truly happy and carefree. What were you doing? Maybe it was painting, playing an instrument, gardening, or writing. Whatever it was, there’s a good chance it can still bring you joy today. Here are a few steps to help you reconnect with a beloved hobby:

  1. Recall the Joy:
    • Reflect on why you loved this hobby in the first place. What feelings did it evoke? What memories are associated with it? Allow yourself to remember the joy and satisfaction it brought you.
  2. Make Time:
    • Life is busy, but setting aside even a small amount of time each week for your hobby can make a big difference. Put it on your calendar like any other important appointment.
  3. Start Small:
    • If it’s been a while since you’ve engaged in this activity, ease back into it. Start with simple projects or short sessions to rebuild your skills and confidence.
  4. Enjoy the Process:
    • Focus on the enjoyment of the activity rather than the outcome. Allow yourself to be present and fully immersed in the process, without pressure or expectations.

Trying something new can be just as rewarding as reconnecting with an old passion. It opens up opportunities for growth, discovery, and excitement. If you’re not sure where to start, consider these tips:

  1. Identify Your Interests:
    • Think about what sparks your curiosity or excites you. Is there something you’ve always wanted to try but never got around to? Make a list of potential hobbies that intrigue you.
  2. Do Some Research:
    • Learn more about the hobbies on your list. Look up beginner guides, watch tutorials, or read about the experiences of others. This can give you a better idea of what to expect and help you decide which hobby to pursue.
  3. Take a Class or Join a Group:
    • Many hobbies have communities or classes available for beginners. Joining a group can provide guidance, support, and motivation as you start your new hobby.
  4. Be Open to Experimentation:
    • Trying something new can be daunting, but it’s also an adventure. Be open to the experience, and don’t be afraid to make mistakes or feel a bit out of your comfort zone.

Benefits of Engaging in a Hobby

No matter if you’re reconnecting with an old passion or exploring a new one, engaging in a hobby has numerous benefits:

  • Stress Relief: Hobbies provide a break from the daily grind and help reduce stress.
  • Creativity Boost: Creative activities stimulate the brain and can lead to new ideas and perspectives.
  • Personal Growth: Learning new skills or improving existing ones fosters a sense of accomplishment and self-improvement.
  • Social Connection: Hobbies can connect you with others who share your interests, building a sense of community and belonging.

This one I actually started to do before I even realized Day 8 was going to challenge me to pick up old hobbies.

I love to crochet. I’m pretty good at it. I have been wanting to make an afghan for the new townhouse, but I don’t yet have a couch and I haven’t quite found the time to pick up a hook.

Luigi and I ventured to Michael’s and Hobby Lobby today because I had a strong pull to look at their yarn selection. I found a super soft skein I loved, but I didn’t end up buying it. I have zero idea why, but I think I’m going to go online and order it for delivery to my doorstep. Then, I will set my goal to finish a snowbound afghan before my birthday next month. Definitely achievable.

Life is too short to let our passions fade away. Whether you decide to rekindle an old love or embark on a new adventure, engaging in a hobby is a powerful way to bring joy, relaxation, and fulfillment into your life. Take that first step today, and watch how it transforms your well-being.

What hobby are you excited to dive into? Share your thoughts and experiences—I’d love to hear about your journey!

Before I sign off, three things I’m grateful for:

1 – My children. Cliche, I know, but they really are the two human beings who keep me grounded. I wouldn’t be here today if I didn’t have those two gorgeous faces to look upon when life is rough.

2 – My ability to learn things and comprehend what’s in front of me. I am always seeking to grow as a person and I have found my ability to comprehend the world around me, either through hands-on or written text, has allowed me to become who I am in this moment as well as shape who I will be in the future.

3 – The night. It is during this time that I am able to recharge myself both mentally and physically so I can wake up to be the best version of myself for y’all and my children.
